| WE consider
ourselves pretty adventurous and fairly well travelled
but to be honest there is so much going on in Soho and the like at
the moment that it's very easy to never venture beyond the realms
of Zone One. So when we were invited to the 11th Birthday party
of Reflex in Kingston-Upon-Themes there were two questions. Is
that far, and has it really been 11 years? We love parties so off we
trotted to discover the answers, and we can reveal that no, it isn't
far - we managed to make it from Soho to Reflex in about 20 minutes, and to be honest after a particularly big night it can take us
longer that that to get from Heaven to Soho! And yes, Reflex has
been a major destination for South-West London boys and girls for
11 years now.
The Reflex is a very slick operation, and one that many clubs could do well to copy. We were greeted at the door by the ever-friendly reception manager Robson and then by general manager Chris and owner Martin. Martin appears to be a very hands-on kind of guy and definitely deserves strong praise for his stewardship of the venue. Staff are always the real make-or-break of a venue and Reflex staff are exactly how we like them - they are smart (all staff wear a uniform), cute, friendly and most importantly efficient - not once did we wait at the bar for more than about thirty seconds. There is a real party atmosphere at Reflex and they do enjoy putting on a show. The stage is hosted by the fantastic Rose Garden and on this occasion the cabaret was provided by the lovely former Step's member Lisa Scott Lee performing her new single Lately. Sadly Lisa didn't bring her sexy steps boys but put on such a great show that we think she can be forgiven. If all this partying gets too much for you then you can safely retire upstairs to Reflex's lounge bar. Lots of comfy seating, loads of cute boys and girls and a fountain. Ever in need of luck we tossed our coins into the fountain and made a wish. Want to know what we wished for? Well if we told you, it wouldn't come true, but if you see us back there in the future you know it already has... CHL |
