MY LONDON

CLUBBING

MARTIN CHURCH
FROM REFLEX

guest columnist

Now, this is a difficult one - after 13 years in the club business, I can honestly say that to actually go clubbing would really be a busman’s holiday. But years ago you’d find me in all the good clubs that are still around today. That’s not a big list, but they know who they are - the one’s with birthday’s in double figures. If you asked my friends, they would tell you that I go clubbing every weekend, but that’s different. That’s work!
DRINKING
This is probably one of the most uncommon traits you’ll ever find in a club owner… I don’t drink! Well, of course I drink, I just don’t drink alcohol! People always ask me why, and it’s nothing more elaborate than the fact that I don’t like the effects of alcohol.
SHOPPING
How quaint - I love the idea that people still go shopping in person, it’s so 20th Century! Get it all delivered… that’s my idea of shopping! Browsing with a mouse is the only way now, and it avoids mingling with the masses. I get everything online, from jumpers to jet-ski’s, and delivered directly to me at home. And if it’s something out of the ordinary, that one would normally seek from Mr John Lewis and his partners or from Liberty, then there’s always the lovely eBay!
EATING OUT
I actually prefer to eat out of the centre of town, more towards the south west London and Surrey borders. I find the atmosphere there is more real, and a lot less ’tourist‘! But, at the end of the day, I could be anywhere in London, and I tend to eat wherever is convenient and has something tasty to offer!
